Former National Security Council official testifies on Thursday as part of impeachment investigation
Former senior National Security Council official Fiona Hill, while testifying in Congress, called speculation that Ukraine, not Russia, interfered in the 2016 presidential election as fiction..
Hill, who until recently served as Director of Europe and Asia on the Council, said: «Based on the questions and statements I have heard, some of the members of this committee seem to believe that the Russian special services did not launch campaigns against the United States, however, for some reason, Ukraine did. This is a fictional version of events, which is spread by the Russian special services themselves.».
«The bitter truth is that it was Russia that was the foreign power that systematically undermined our democratic institutions in 2016. This is the conclusion our intelligence agencies have come to, as confirmed by bipartisan Congress reports. This is undeniable, even if some details are to remain classified.».

Addressing lawmakers, Hill said: «I would like to ask you that during this investigation you do not disseminate politically motivated fabrications that so obviously advance the interests of Russia.».
According to the witness, allegations of Ukrainian interference in the elections «cause harm, even if they are disseminated exclusively for domestic political interests».
Trump’s ex-Russia advisor Fiona Hill blasts Ukraine election interference conspiracy theory
«President Putin and Russian intelligence agencies act as a supercommittee for political action, – Hill noted. – They spend millions of dollars to weaponize our own political opposition research and false claims. When we are consumed by inter-party strife, we cannot resist these outside forces trying to disunite us, shatter our institutions and destroy the faith of the American people in democracy.».
Hill said Trump appears to have heard speculation about Ukrainian interference from his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who he has assigned to oversee US-Ukrainian relations bypassing official diplomatic channels of communication. However, she stressed that this theory does not have «no reason» and that she is unaware of any evidence of irregularities related to the work of Biden’s son in a Ukrainian company «Burisma».
Meanwhile, President Trump tweeted Thursday expressing outrage at the media coverage of the speech by US Ambassador to the EU, Gordon Sondland, who testified the previous day: «Yesterday was a great day for the GOP for me in terms of impeachment farce. At the same time, when I returned to the White House and watched the news on many TV channels, you have no idea how they cover the same event. Fake and corrupt news!»
